Rahul Gandhi to visit flood-hit Wayanad today; writes to Union Ministers for help

New Delhi | Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is all set to visit his Parliamentary constituency, Wayanad, which is also flood-hit on Tuesday.

This will be his second visit to Wayanad, which has suffered a massive property and human life loss.

Rahul Gandhi will arrive at the Kannur international airport in the afternoon and will stay at least three days in his constituency this time, said party leaders.

Security has been stepped up in both Kannur and Wayanad districts in view of his visit.

“No particular programme has been scheduled. He will meet all affected families,” said Wayanad district Congress Committee president IC Balakrishnan.

During his first visit, he had distributed flood relief materials to the people, including rice and other essential items like sugar, salt and different varieties of dals.

MP Rahul Gandhi writes to Union Minister for Wayanad

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has written to three Union Ministers asking for help to rebuild Kerala.

In his letter to Union Minister for Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, he has requested the Minister to expand the scope of works under MGNREGA for flood rehabilitation works.

“Kerala witnessed one of the worst floods in the last few decades. Heavy rains, flooding, landslides have left people homeless, and rendered thousands of houses uninhabitable due to the deposition of mud and silt in the houses… I would like to request you to expand the scope of works under MGNREGA for the state of Kerala for enabling the state to take up needed flood rehabilitation works, and also increase the minimum guaranteed days of employment for a family to 200 days,” Rahul Gandhi wrote.

Wayanad is one of the worst flood-hit districts this year, suffering landslides too.
