Quoting the World Bank report, Rahul Gandhi slammed the central government’s GST as complex and second highest in the world.
The Goods and Service Tax (GST) which was the core issue to target the BJP during the Gujarat assembly elections was invoked once again by the Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday. Citing a World Bank report Rahul Gandhi said that the terror of Gabbar Singh Tax is now world acclaimed.
Modi ji, the terror of Gabbar Singh Tax is now globally acclaimed.
The World Bank says it’s the 2nd HIGHEST in the WORLD and one of the MOST complex. #ModiTalksNoCanDohttps://t.co/mUBv3EdEBK

The GST was introduced by the central government last year. The one nation, one tax policy was meant for simplifying the taxation regime in the country. However, business class was the most hit by the GST. Last year during election campaigning in Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi had mocked it as a Gabbar Singh Tax.
Quoting the World Bank report, Rahul Gandhi slammed the central government’s GST as complex and second highest in the world. India’s GST structure has five tax slabs of 0, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. The report prepared by the World Bank after studying the similar Taxation systems in 115 countries said that it is the most complex and second highest among them. Many countries on the list only have one or two slab tax. While only few countries including India, Pakistan and India have four to five slabs of taxation, said the report.
Rahul Gandhi’s hatred for India is astonishing. When World Bank hailed India’s rise in Ease of Doing Business rankings, he rubbished the report. Now selectively quotes WB report to berate India’s progress! https://t.co/cU7wzaoiTC

However, Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani hit back at Gandhi saying his hatred for India is astonishing. In a tweet she said, “Rahul Gandhi’s hatred for India is astonishing. When World Bank hailed India’s rise in Ease of Doing Business rankings, he rubbished the report.” She also accused him for selectively quoting the World Bank report to “berate India’s progress”.
