Raj Thackeray Takes a U-Turn, Says ‘Don’t Support CAA’

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray was answering a query from one of his officials during a party meeting where he said that he does not support the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Mumbai| MNS Chief Raj Thackeray clarified his stance on newly amended citizenship act. He said, “I do not support the act. The rally organised on 9th February isn’t in support of CAA, but to oppose those who are protesting in support of Pakistani and Bangladeshi illegal migrants.”

Raj Thackeray had called up a meeting of party officials where he cleared the doubts of his party workers. “There is no question of supporting CAA. Our rally is to oppose those who are supporting illegal migrants from Pakistan and Bangladesh. CAA & NRC can be discussed but we don’t support both of them.”

Raj Thackeray had called up this meeting on his residence ‘Krishnakunj’. There was rising confusion between MNS officials regarding the issue of CAA-NRC. The meeting was called up to clear the confusion. Raj Thackeray had touched the issue of Hindutva for the first time in an even organised in last week. Raj Thackeray had indirectly extended his support to CAA & NRC. MNS officials were later questioning his stance on the same.

Some of the questions raised by the officials were – What is MNS’s Stance? Will MNS side with the BJP? Are we going to change the anti-BJP stance we had taken during Parliament and Assembly elections?

It’s said that in a meeting organised in Rangsharada Auditorium yesterday, Raj Thackeray had left in just 10 minutes. He had also told his officials that there should be a great crowd for the rally organised on 9th February in support of CAA.

What Raj Thackeray said in last week’s event ?

While concluding a day long event last week, Theckeray had supported the CAA. He had also called for a rally on 9th February in support of CAA.

“Many people enter in our country illegally. We have to become strict like other countries. I extend my full support to central government on the issue of throwing out Pakistani and Bangladeshi Muslims”, Thackeray had said.
