Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh violated Model code of Conduct by calling for Modi: EC

New Delhi | Rajasthan Governor and senior BJP leader Kalyan Singh has violated his constitutional post by calling out and supporting Modi publicly, Election Commission has found.

“We are workers of BJP. Going by that, we definitely want the BJP to win. Everyone wants that once more, Modiji should become PM. It is necessary for the country and the society that Modiji becomes PM,” Kalyan Singh had told reporters in Aligarh.

He had said that as a party member, he “genuinely” wanted BJP to win.

The poll panel is likely to write to the President of India or Rashtrapati Bhavan.

When the comments were reported, the Office had said that no one can misuse the constitutional post for promoting an election campaign, but cannot act as there was no official complaint.

Singh was the two time Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Kalyan Singh quit the BJP in 1999 and returned in 2004. In 2014, soon after the BJP came to power, Kalyan Singh was appointed Governor.
