Replace Mahatma Gandhi’s image with Veer Savarkar on currency notes: Hindu Mahasabha

New Delhi: The Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha on Tuesday requested the union government to replace the image of Mahatma Gandhi from the Indian currency with the picture of social reformer Veer Savarkar.

The ABHM chief Swami Chakrapani said that Savarkar paid a great role in India’s freedom movement and hence should be paid respect by featuring him on the currency.

Swami Chakrapani has given a 30day time period to the government to implement the changes, failure to which the organisation will launch a protest.

He has also demanded Bharat Ratna for Savarkar. Vinayak Damodar Savarkar coined the term “Hindutva” and wrote his famous ideological treatise, “Hindutva: Who is a Hindu?” in 1923.

The Congress party has opposed this demand of the Hindu Mahasabha, Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has said it is an attempt to dilute the history.
