S Jaishankar clarifies PM Modi’s “Abki Baar, Trump Sarkar” pitch at Hody Modi event

Jaishankar requested journalists to give accurate reports, saying, “I mean he (Modi) was very clear about what he was talking about.”

Washington| Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the slogan of ‘Abki Bar, Trump Sarkar’ at the ‘Howdy Modi’ event organized by the Indian community in Houston during his US tour. US President Donald Trump was also present with PM Modi. This slogan was seen as campaigning for the trump and the opposition also took a jibe at him many times.

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has given clarification after the controversy over this issue escalated. He said that people should not misinterpret things. The Foreign Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan at the Houston rally was merely a reference to what Donald Trump had said during his presidential election campaign to gain the love of the Indian-American community.

Jaishankar, who went on a three-day visit to Washington, categorically denied that the Prime Minister had said so to support Trump’s candidature for the 2020 election campaign. In response to a question from Indian journalists about the impact of the slogan used by PM Modi at the ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Houston, Jaishankar said, “No, he did not say that.”

He said, “I believe, please pay careful attention to what the Prime Minister said. According to my memory, Trump had used what the Prime Minister said, so the Prime Minister was talking earlier. I do not think we should misinterpret things. I don’t think you are doing good to anyone by doing so.”

On September 22, while addressing a gathering of over 50,000 Indian Americans in Houston, Modi said, “The echo of the words” this time Trump Trump government “of the candidate trump is loud and clear.”

Jaishankar requested journalists to give accurate reports, saying, “I mean he (Modi) was very clear about what he was talking about.” What he was saying is what was said as a candidate, which shows that you as a candidate are also trying to join India and its people. ”

He said, “We have an independent stance towards domestic politics in America.” Our position is that whatever happens in this country is their politics, not ours.”
