Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Monday that he was “sad” to see the “disrespect for sports” as visuals of senior Maharashtra ministers and NCP chief Sharad Pawar using a sports stadium racetrack to park their cars during a meeting in Pune surfaced on social media.
“I’m personally very sad to see such disrespect for sports and sporting ethics in our country,” tweeted Mr. Rijiju, Sports Minister.
They've caused damages to the sports infrastructure so I demand that the leaders of MVA who were there should offer unconditional apology. “As it is we are lacking in sufficient sports facilities in our country. All the sports centers need proper care,” he said.
A former chief of the Indian Olympics Association himself, Sharad Pawar, along with state Sports Minister Sunil Kedar, and Minister of State Aditi Tatkare visited Pune’s Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Saturday to review a project.
According to ANI, Maharashtra’s Sports Commissioner Om Prakash Bakoria tendered an apology saying vehicles were allowed to be parked on cemented tracks as Pawar had an issue with his leg.

“Vehicles were allowed to be parked on cemented tracks as Pawar Sahab had an issue with his leg. It was allowed so that he doesn’t face problems in walking. Unfortunately, the vehicles came on track. I apologize for it & assure that such incident won’t be repeated” he said.
Meanwhile, Siddhartha Shirole, BJP MLA from Pune’s Shivajinagar demanded an apology from the MVA leaders as they caused damage to the sports infrastructure.
