“Sam Pitroda was out of line, 1984 a terrible tragedy”: Rahul Gandhi

In a Facebook post, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “I think what Sam Pitroda Ji has said is totally different from the party line and he should apologize for that.”

 

New Delhi| Reacting to the controversy over Sam Pitroda saying “Hua to Hua” about the 1984 Sikh massacre, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has finally broken the silence. Rahul Gandhi said that 1984 Anti-Sikh riots were a “terrible tragedy” and Sam Pitroda’s comments were “out of the line”. Rahul Gandhi further added that Pitroda should apologize for his statements.

In a Facebook post, Rahul Gandhi wrote, ” “I think what Sam Pitroda Ji has said is totally different from the party line and he should apologize for that.” He said, ‘I believe 1984 is such a tragedy The one who has given great pain, justice should be done, those who are responsible for this should be punished. ‘

Rahul Gandhi wrote on a Facebook post, “What Mr Sam Pitroda has said is absolutely and completely out of line and is not appreciated. I will be communicating this to him directly. He must apologise for his comment.”

Rahul Gandhi further said that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has apologized for 1984, his mother, Sonia Gandhi also has apologized for it. “We all made our stand clear that it was a horrific tragedy that should not have happened,” he wrote.

The entire controversy began when Congress leader Sam Pitroda who heads Congress’ overseas units and is considered the mentor of Rahul Gandhi reacting to a question said: “what happened in 1984, has happened”. He reportedly said, “Now what is 84? Talk about what you (Narendra Modi) did in five years. What happened in 84 has happened.”

However, later Pitroda apologized after the controversy and widespread outrage. Sam Pitroda said, “My Hindi is not good, so my statement was presented incorrectly. I wanted to say that what happened was bad.” Pitroda said, “I am sorry that my statement was presented incorrectly. I apologize.”
