Santosh Gangwar likely to be appointed as the new pro tem speaker

New Delhi | BJP leader Santosh Gangwar, one of the most seniormost members of the Lok Sabha, is likely to be appointed as the new pro tem speaker.

A senior-most MP, irrespective of his/her party affiliation, is appointed as a pro tem speaker who will conduct the oath ceremony of the new Ministers and will preside over the first sitting of the Lok Sabha until a Speaker is elected.

Union Minister Maneka Gandhi shares an equal status and probability, however, she could be promoted to ministerial duties.

Both Gangwar and Maneka Gandhi have been elected from their constituency, their 8th term in the Lok Sabha.

The 17th Lok Sabha, with fresh MPs and ministers, will have its first session from June 6 and will continue till June 15, 2019.

In 2014, present Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath was appointed as the pro tem speaker.
