Sedition case filed against Mysore University student over “Free Kashmir” poster at rally

Dalit Student Organization and Mysore University Research Students Association organized a rally in support of JNU students at Mysore University Campus.

 

Mysore| The controversy over “Free Kashmir” poster at Occupy Gateway protest was not even settling when another such case has come to light. This time from Karnataka’s Mysore. Apparently, a similar poster was spotted at the protest march organized by the Mysore university students in solidarity with JNU students condemning the violence. The controversy erupted when a video of the protest where the poster was featured went viral on social media.

While the placard was removed after a few minutes, it snowballed into a major issue and politics has started over it. The police have filed a sedition case against the student holding the poster. However, this student has not been identified yet. Police Commissioner KT Balakrishna said, Commissioner of Police Katie Balakrishna said, the police have registered a case under section 124A and section 34 of the IPC in this case.

On Wednesday, the Dalit Student Organization and Mysore University Research Students Association organized a rally in support of JNU students at Mysore University Campus. In this, the students took out a torch procession. During this time, this placard was shown. When this matter came up in the local media, the university registrar issued a notice to the union.

Karnataka Higher Education Minister CN Ashwathnarayan slamming the students asked, “What do you mean by free Kashmir. For the last 72 years, we were facing problems there. We cannot always go on with such problems. We want to send a direct message to those who show such placards that such behaviour will not be tolerated.”
