Senior Congress leader Kamalnath appointed as Madhya Pradesh state chief

The Congress party has finally ended months of suspense and appointed senior leader Kamalnath as the president of Madhya Pradesh Congress.

Jyotiraditya Scindia has been appointed as campaign committee chief for the state election.

Along with the appointment of Kamalnath, the party also named four working presidents – Tribal leader Bala Bachchan, senior legislator Ramnivas Rawat, Indore MLA Jitu Patwari and leader Surendra Chaudhary.

The 9-time Member of Parliament from the Chindwara constituency Kamalnath has a tough task in front of him ahead of the Madhya Pradesh state election. He is seen as an outsider and has an influence limited only to 30 to 40 seats in the southern belt.

The other challenges in front of him are to avoid the clash of supremacy in the Congress between Jyotiraditya Scindia and Digvijay Singh.

Digvijay Singh who is freshly returned from a six-month ‘Narmada Yatra’ to reconnect with the masses and re-establish his relevance in the state, had indicated that he was comfortable with Nath as a leader, but not Scindia.

Assembly elections are due in Madhya Pradesh at the end of this year.
