The Congress picked Senior Journalist Kumar Ketkar as its Rajya Sabha Nominee while BJP is fielding Narayan Rane who left Congress last year.
The race to win the Rajyasabha has begun. As the Rajyasabha seats in the number of states are being vacated this month, the parties are gearing up to field candidates. The Indian National Congress, on Sunday, announced the list of its Rajya Sabha candidates. On the other hand, BJP too issued a list of its Rajya Sabha candidates on Sunday. While Congress is fielding candidates from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and West Bengal; BJP is fielding candidates from Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Jharkhand.
The Congress picked Senior Journalist Kumar Ketkar as its Rajya Sabha Nominee while BJP is fielding Narayan Rane who left Congress last year to form his own party Maharashtra Swabhimaan Paksha. It was expected that Narayan Rane may get a cabinet seat. However, Narayan Rane had to be satisfied with the Upper House nomination.
From Gujarat, four seats will be vacated on April 2 while the election for four seats has already been declared by the Election Commission of India later this month on March 23. Arun Jaitley, Parshottam Rupala, Mansukh Mandaviya and Shankar Vegad are currently occupying the seats. However, after the improved performance of Congress in Gujarat Assembly elections, chances are that both the parties can send their 2 members each to the Rajya Sabha.
