Rahul Gandhi promises revived Congress to Indian Diaspora in Singapore

Rahul Gandhi said, “The Congress party faced a storm in 2012. The system in the country was destabilised between 2012 to 2014. Everyone saw the consequences. But now we have a new opportunity, a new slate.”

Ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Congress is eying the support of Indian community residing abroad. For this Congress president, Rahul Gandhi on Thursday met several Indian-origin CEOs in Singapore for discussing a range of issues with them.

Rahul Gandhi has been travelling to various countries and meeting the people of Indian origin there to gain support to the Congress once again. Earlier last year he had visited Yale University where in his speech he promised the revival of Congress.

Talking to the Indian-origin CEOs Rahul Gandhi accepted that Congress faced severe hardship during 2012-2014. He said, “The Congress party faced a storm in 2012. The system in the country was destabilised between 2012 to 2014. Everyone saw the consequences. But now we have a new opportunity, a new slate.” He also promised to present a revived Congress party with the value the Indian diaspora has nurtured.

Attacking the ruling BJP Gandhi said, while Congress seeks to keep balance and peace in the society; BJP, on the other hand, is not concerned about the peace and harmony in the country. “We see very serious dangers of polarising society and risks arising from them,” Gandhi added.

Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the South Asian countries was arranged by the AICC Overseas cell head technocrat Sam Pitroda, who has been actively making efforts for Congress to reach out to Indian Diaspora outside the country.

According to PTI, Congress Sources have confirmed that Gandhi will be meeting Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on March 9. On Thursday, Gandhi is slated to meet Singapore Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan. Gandhi will also address the students of Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and the National University of Singapore.

He will fly to Malaysia on March 10 where he will meet Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.
