Mumbai: “The state government can’t work for development by denying people their right”, Congress Rajyasabha MP Husain Dalwai said on Monday.
At the press conference organised for the Nanar refinery project issue, the Congress has accused the BJP-Shivsena government of fooling the common people. Talking about the issue the Congress leader said that around 17 villages have been affected by the refinery project. 14 of them are in the Ratnagiri district itself while the rest of them are in Sindhudurg.
“The land belongs to farming, there are around 12 lakh mango trees present in that region along with 2 lakh cashew trees. While the rest of the tress amount to 6 crores. The Government is spreading a false statement that there is no forestation. Even on the barren land which the government claims they are acquiring, the locals have successfully managed to cultivate rice,” the leader added.
“The villagers are scared that they will lose their land,” expressed a worried Dalvi.
The Congress leader questioned the government that “The land acquisition act of 2013 states that permission of 75per cent of affected people is required for acquisition of land under government projects but in this, not even 5% people are agreed for the project.”
Husain Dalwai also drew attention to a land scam in the Oil refinery project. He said ” Many people have bought land from the locals in this region before the government passed a notification of the project. The land was bought at a cheaper rate and now the land price has reached millions. Recently, 43 people have bought land and of the buyers are Gujarati and Jains none of them are locals.”
“The Shivsena chief gives a different statement, the Minister for Industries Subhash Desai gives a different statement whereas the Chief minister is giving a different statement,”alleged Dalwi.
Former chief minister Ashok Chavan also accused Devendra Fadnavis of defaming his own minister. The CM had earlier said that the minister is not authorised to withdraw land notification.
