Sonia Gandhi Being Treated For Respiratory Infections, Along With Post Covid-Health Issues: Congress

Sonia Gandhi was rushed to the hospital’s emergency wing last Sunday with profuse bleeding from the nose, when the infection was detected.

New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi continues to be under treatment at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi after she developed a fungal infection in her lower respiratory tract following a Covid-19  infection, the party informed.

“She was immediately put under treatment and underwent a related follow-up procedure on Thursday morning,” a statement from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) said Friday. “She is currently being treated for it along with other post-Covid symptoms. She continues to be under close observation and treatment,” it added.

Sonia Gandhi was rushed to the hospital’s emergency wing last Sunday with profuse bleeding from the nose, when the infection was detected. The 75-year-old Congress leader had to undergo a procedure for the same. She had tested positive for Covid-19 ten days before the hospitalization. At the time, Senior Congress leader  Randeep Surjewala said she had developed a mild fever, and some other symptoms, and had isolated herself.

Both Rahul Gandhi  and Priyanka Gandhi  Vadra have been visiting Sonia at the hospital. The Congress president was accompanied to the hospital by her daughter Priyanka. On June 12, minutes after a section of the emergency was cordoned off after she was admitted, her son Rahul Gandhi was also by her hospital bed.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday accepted the request of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to postpone his questioning to Monday, June 20.The probe agency has hence issued a fresh summon for Monday.MR Gandhi had requested the ED officials that he had to be at Ganga Ram Hospital to take care of his mother, Sonia Gandhi.
