Sonia Gandhi writes emotional letter to Arun Jaitley’s wife condoling his death

Sonia Gandhi said that Arun Jaitley was a person who has attracted friends and fans outside the political circle and at every stage of his life.

 

News Delhi| Tributes and condolences are pouring in from across the political party for the Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley after his demise. Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday wrote a letter to his wife Sangeeta Jaitley mourning his death. She said in the letter that Arun Jaitley went out of the political circle to attract friends and he fought a cruel disease with indomitable courage to the end.

Earlier in the day, Sonia Gandhi went to her house and hugged Sangeeta Jaitley and expressed her condolences. In a letter to Sangeeta Jaitley, Sonia Gandhi said, “I am very sad to hear of your husband’s demise.” She said that Arun Jaitley was a person who has attracted friends and fans outside the political circle and at every stage of his life.

Sonia Gandhi said, “While in any position in the cabinet, as leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha, and as a senior advocate in the Supreme Court, his sharp intelligence, ability and communication skills were evident.” She said, “Arun Jaitley coped his cruel illness with great courage to the end. His departure is even more tragic because he was still very young, he had a lot to contribute to national life.”

She further wrote in the letter, “In this hour of grief, words are few for consolation, but I wanted you, your son and your daughter to know that I share your sorrow. May Arunji rest in peace.”

Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Arun Jaitley died on Saturday afternoon in AIIMS. He was 66. Jaitley was undergoing treatment at AIIMS for several weeks. AIIMS announced this in a brief statement. Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS on August 9 after complaining of difficulty in breathing and discomfort. From 10:30 am to 1 pm on Sunday, his body will be kept at the party headquarters for people to pay last respects. After this, he will be cremated at Nigam Bodh Ghat at 2:30 pm.
