Sasikala has said in her letter that even when former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was alive, she has never been in power or in office.
Days before the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, former CM late J Jayalalitha’s close aide VK Sasikala has announced to quit politics. She has also released a letter, announcing her retirement from politics. Sasikala has instructed AIADMK workers to unite. She said that the party workers should stay together and make sure that in the coming assembly elections, they will defeat DMK and register a big victory.
Sasikala has said in her letter that even when former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was alive, she has never been in power or in office. She will not do this even after his death. She wrote – “I am leaving politics, but I will always pray to God that Amma’s golden rule should come and the legacy should go ahead. Assuming that we are children of one mother, all supporters should work together in the upcoming elections. Everyone should fight against the DMK and form the Amma government. I thank you all.”
After Jayalalithaa’s death in December 2016, Sasikala was elected general secretary of AIADMK. Her name surfaced in February 2017 in connection with corruption and disproportionate assets case. She then gave the command of the party to her nephew TTV Dinakaran. In September 2017, AIADMK expelled her and Dinakaran from the party. Dinakaran founded Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK). With the support of Sasikala, Palanisami was made the CM of Tamil Nadu. However, the party then split into two factions. The dispute between Palaniswami and Panneerselvam about becoming the CM escalated. Later, the two groups merged and she was sidelined by the party.
Sasikala was released on February 27 after serving a four-year jail sentence. After that she tested Coronavirus positive. She was admitted to Victoria Hospital in Bangalore. Sasikala was discharged from the hospital on 31 January. She returned to Chennai on 8 February.
