Tamil Nadu CM Palaniswami meets PM Modi; demands ‘Bharat Ratna’ for AIADMK leaders

New Delhi | Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in Delhi.

Addressing the media after the meeting, CM Palaniswami informed about a list of demands which he put forwards in front of PM Modi. Demanding the highest civilian awards for the veteran leaders of AIADMK, Palaniswami said, “We have put forward a demand to accord Bharat Ratna to ‘Amma’ (J Jayalalitha) and Arignar Anna (CN Annadurai). The Tamil Nadu CM also demanded that Chennai central railway station to be re-named after AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran.

Speaking about the rumours of a possible alliance with the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu, Palaniswami said, “We will decide on alliance once the poll dates are announced.” He also answered to questions whether Tamil Nadu government will reduce the VAT on fuel prices after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced the reduction in the excise duty and asked the state government to implement similarly. CM Palaniswami said,”We need funds to implement various welfare schemes in the state. Keeping our financial position in mind, we will decide on reducing fuel prices in the state.”
