“The BJP Has Backstabbed Me For Power”:Uddhav Thackeray

Uddhav Thackeray

After splitting with the BJP, Mr. Thackeray agreed to collaborate with ideologically opposite parties Nationalist Congress Party, and the Congress to form a government and keep the BJP from taking power.

Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray, addressed the citizens of Maharashtra for the first time since his exit as Maharashtra Chief Minister and took potshots today at the Bhartiya Janata Party, which has formed a new government with Shiv Sena rebel Eknath Shinde.

“BJP made so-called Shiv Sainik the Chief Minister,” Uddhav Thackeray said, a day after Eknath Shinde’s oath.

“Had Amit Shah kept his word given to me, there would have been a BJP chief minister in Maharashtra now,” he added.

“The BJP has backstabbed me for power. I had told Amit Shah earlier as well that there should be a Shiv Sena Chief Minister for 2.5 years (during the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance). Had they done this earlier, there would’ve been no Maha Vikas Aghadi,” said the Shiv Sena chief.

Mr. Thackeray was referring to the reason why he parted ways with Bhartiya Janata Party his party’s 25-year alliance partner after they won the Maharashtra assembly polls.

Mr. Thackeray had alleged the BJP, especially Union Home Minister  Amit Shah, of reneging on a promise of a rotational chief ministership in which the two parties would split the five-year term equally.

After splitting with the BJP, Mr. Thackeray agreed to collaborate with ideologically opposite parties Nationalist Congress Party, and the Congress to form a government and keep the BJP from taking power.

Mr. Thackeray resigned on Wednesday after most of his Shiv Sena MLAs joined rebel Eknath Shinde, bringing down the Maha Vikas Agadi coalition government.

Eknath Shinde was sworn in yesterday, with former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as his deputy. One of the first decisions he took was to reverse the Thackeray government’s decision to shift a controversial metro car shed project from Aarey, which is called the green lungs of Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Raut has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money-laundering case.

Mumbai: Shiv Sena National spokesperson Sanjay Raut accused that the Bhartiya Janata Party vowed to “disturb” the Uddhav Thackeray government the day it came to power in 2019, said that his party would not do the same and the new administration “must work for the public”.

The remarks of the Shiv Sena leader came a day after Eknath Shinde, who led the rebellion against Shiv Sena chief  Uddhav Thackeray, took oath as the  Chief Minister of Maharashtra along with former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as his deputy.

While interacting with the media, Mr. Raut said, “I congratulate this government. I welcome them. When the Uddhav Thackeray govt came, they were saying from the first day that they will disturb him. But we won’t do that. We won’t disturb this government, they must work for the public.”

Despite 39 Shiv Sena MLAs rebelling against Mr. Thackeray and joining the Eknath Shinde faction, Mr. Raut denied the weakening of the organization.

“I don’t think our organization ever weakened…Nobody is upset,” he said when questioned if the party has weakened and if upset MLAs will now be happy after Eknath Shinde became Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Raut has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money-laundering case.

Calling the summon “totally political”, he said that he will visit the Enforcement Directorate office today.

“Yes, I am going to ED today. Everyone knows that it is political. The central agency summoned me and I am a citizen as well as MP. So I will go to ED,” Mr. Raut said.

Earlier today, Mr. Raut said he would appear before the probe agency today at noon and appealed to the party workers to not gather in front of the probe agency’s office.

“I will be appearing before the ED today at 12 noon. I respect the Summons issued to me and it’s my duty to co-operate with the Investigation agencies I appeal Shivsena workers not to gather at the ED office Don’t worry !.” Mr. Raut’s tweet read.

Mr. Raut also tagged Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo  Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in his tweet.

He attached a photo of himself standing in front of a portrait of the late Bal Thackeray, the founder of the Shiv Sena.

Mr. Raut is being probed in connection with the re-development of Mumbai’s Patra Chawl.

In April this year, the central probe agency had attached immovable properties worth ₹ 11.15 crore, including a flat at Dadar, held by Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha, and eight land parcels at Kihim near Alibag, jointly owned by the latter with Swapna Patkar, in connection with the redevelopment scam. Swapna is the wife of Sujit Patkar, a close associate of the Shiv Sena leader.
