“I tried and perhaps I lost then how could win alone in this fight for a new beginning. I have decided that I want a positive mindset people around me I have avoided a negative company,” he added.

Kirit Pradyot Deb Barman had been feuding with the party ever since he filed a petition in the Supreme Court requesting implementation of an Assam-like NRC in the state. Deb Barman had earlier threatened to resign after he was allegedly pressurized to take back the petition. He has alleged that senior Congress leader Luizinho Faleiro is pressuring him to withdraw the petition.

Earlier, Deb Barman and Faleiro had a showdown over the NRC issue at a meeting of Congress leaders from the northeastern states which was chaired by party president Sonia Gandhi. leaders who attended the meeting said Faleiro argued with Deb Barman that he should not annoy Bengalis in the state.

“I will not withdraw the case I am not compromising on withdrawing the NRC plea. I cannot betray the people,” said Barman. He had also met Congress president Sonia Gandhi over his differences with the party.
