New Delhi: The Congress Party on Thursday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his silence on the police firing in Tuticorin in which around 13 people died and more than 100 were injured.
Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi in a press conference criticized PM Modi and said that”The fitness challenge has time enough for the PM to respond. You are all running on a treadmill but getting nowhere. You are fit for a camera but not fit for governance.”

Attacking the BJP, Singhvi said that If a plant is located in an Industrial Zone, it requires no environmental clearance merely cause of the fact that it is situated in an Industrial Zone. This was a major change made by the BJP. There is no requirement of public consultation anymore.
“There has not been a single suspension despite the firings in which nine people have lost their lives, No enquiry has yet been formally called for.” added the Congress leader.
Questioning Chief Minister E Palaniswami, he asked that will the CM explain why he has not visited the site till date? “Who ordered the firing? There is a protocol. Under whose authority or supervision did it happen? he added.
He also stated that the Tamil Nadu Govt. has forfeited the moral right to rule.
On Tuesday, the police fired at the protest rally demanding the closure of the Sterlite Copper’s smelting unit in Thoothukudi. Around 13 people died in the firing while 60 persons, including police, suffered injuries in stone pelting and have been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Thoothukudi.
