UBT MP Sanjay Raut Granted Bail

Hours after Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut was convicted in a defamation case, the UBT MP has been granted bail. The court has also suspended the sentence for 30 days, giving time for Raut to file an appeal.

The metropolitan magistrate in Mumbai’s Mazgaon has also fined Sanjay Raut ₹ 25,000 in the case registered on a complaint by BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya’s wife Dr Medha Somaiya.

Dr Medha Somaiya filed the case after Raut allegedly made defamatory remarks against her, accusing her and her husband Kirit of involvement in a Rs 100 crore corruption case related to the construction of public toilets under Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation’s jurisdiction, reported ABP news.
