UBT MP Sanjay Raut Granted Bail

Hours after Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut was convicted in a defamation case, the UBT MP has been granted bail. The court has also suspended the sentence for 30 days, giving time for Raut to file an appeal.

The metropolitan magistrate in Mumbai’s Mazgaon has also fined Sanjay Raut ₹ 25,000 in the case registered on a complaint by BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya’s wife Dr Medha Somaiya.

Dr Medha Somaiya filed the case after Raut allegedly made defamatory remarks against her, accusing her and her husband Kirit of involvement in a Rs 100 crore corruption case related to the construction of public toilets under Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation’s jurisdiction, reported ABP news.

Report: Salwan Momika, Who burned Quran Shot Dead

On Thursday, Swedish state media reported that Salwan Momika died from gunshot wounds. Salwan Mornika is the man who burnt the Qoran in 2023.

The incident comes after he was found at his home in Hovsjo, Sodertalje.

Following Salwan’s death, the Stockholm district court postponed Thursday’s verdict. The verdict was on a case where he was a defendant.

The ruling was postponed until February 3. The court said that “because Salwan Momika has died, more time is needed.”

Salwan Momika allegedly burned Qorans during several protests. Salwan carried out multiple desecrations in Sweden.

According to reports, Momika’s actions gained global attention. These incidents sparked outrage in several Muslim nations, triggering riots and unrest. following which Salwan was found guilty of inciting ethnic hatred.

According to the Police statement: “The shooting occurred indoors; when police arrived, they found a man who had been hit by shots and the man was taken to hospital”.

According to the Hindustan Times, in 2023, the Swedish Migration Agency decided to expel Momika from the country. However, the expulsion was not carried out because Momika had gained attraction through his actions. It was also because of the threats against him in Iraq.

Following this the Swedish Migration Agency granted a new temporary residence permit valid until April 2024.
