Uddhav Thackeray Sacks Senior Leaders Amid Tussle Over Control Of Party

The layoff comes ahead of the Supreme Court hearing on the huge political drama in the state following the revolt by the then Thackeray loyalist Eknath Shinde, which led to a Shinde-Fadnavis government.

Mumbai: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray amid a political battle with Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde for the party’s control has removed several senior party leaders for anti-party activities.

Mr. Shinde who took over as CM after toppling the Uddhav Thackeray-led government has already employed two out of three leaders sacked by team Thackeray.

Former Minister Vijay Shivtare, MLA Santosh Bangar , and Naresh Mhaske have been sacked by the Sena chief.

Meanwhile, Mr. Thackeray hired around 100 new office bearers in Thane, Palghar, Amravati, and Yavatmal districts.

The layoff comes ahead of the Supreme Court hearing on the huge political drama in the state following the revolt by the then Thackeray loyalist Eknath Shinde, which led to a Shinde-Fadnavis government.

The Apex court will hear a list of petitions from both groups regarding the disqualification of MLAs.

Out of the 55 Sena MLAs, 53 are on the disqualification list of one side or the other. Mr. Thackeray claims that 16 MLAs of the Shinde camp including the Chief Minister should be disqualified.

On June 25 national executive meet, the Team Thackeray passed six important resolutions, reaffirming Mr. Thackeray as the Shiv Sena chief and authorizing him to be the decision maker of the party.
