“Unemployment is matter of shame in India” says Manmohan Singh

Manmohan Singh also said that the unemployment rate in Delhi in the last four months was 15 percent, much higher than any other city

New Delhi: The former prime minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh on Tuesday said it is a “matter of shame” that in India even our youth is educated they have to run around for jobs. He asserted that “solid steps” will be taken to deal with unemployment if Congress comes to power in Delhi.

The former PM was addressing Congress supporters at an election meeting in Tilak Nagar in Delhi, he also took a Jibe at rival parties, saying, “I don’t want to condemn any political party on this event”.

“I want to draw attention to some of the serious issues which are worrying about the youngsters today. After completion of education, and spending so much money on it, they have to search for jobs. It is a matter of concern and shame,” Singh said.

Manmohan Singh also said that the unemployment rate in Delhi in the last four months was 15 percent, much higher than any other city.

“Our party is committed to the people and solid steps will be taken to deal with the unemployment issue if we come to power. Our major concern will be on employment,” Singh said.

He added that there has been a fall in the number of factory workers employed in the national capital from 2013-14 when the Sheila Dikshit government was in power, compared to the corresponding figure in 2017-18.

He said, “It was 75,273 in 2013-2014 and fell to 68,630 in 2017-18,”. Congress candidates from Rajouri Garden and Tilak Nagar constituency were also present at the event.

Manmohan Singh urged the people to vote for the two candidates to ensure their victory in elections.

He also appreciated the late ex-chief minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit for transforming the landscape of the national capital with her vision during her regime.
