Vinod Khanna’s wife asks BJP ticket, says “Confident of winning from Gurdaspur”

Vinod Khanna managed to win the election from this seat in 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2014. In 2009, Vinod Khanna was defeated by Pratap Singh Bajwa.

 

New Delhi| Kavita Khanna, wife of late Bollywood actor and BJP MP Vinod Khanna, has claimed to contest Lok Sabha elections from Gurdaspur.

Vinod Khanna was elected four times from this seat. Describing the desire to contest the Lok Sabha elections, Kavita said, after much consideration, I felt that people of Gurdaspur want to see me as their MP and I do not want to disappoint them. However, she said that the BJP will take the final decision on the candidate from Gurdaspur constituency.

She said, “I have been associated with this place for 20 years. I Can understand the feelings of people. I think they would like to make me their MP. If I am made the candidate, then I am sure that I will win.” Kavita further said, “I am not just claiming the candidature just because I am Vinod Khanna’s wife. I believe that I know the parliamentary area and I am connected to the people and committed to the parliamentary field. On the basis of merit, I will do the job adequately that needs to be done.”

Vinod Khanna managed to win the election from this seat in 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2014. In 2009, Vinod Khanna was defeated by Pratap Singh Bajwa. After the demise of Vinod Khanna in 2017, this seat was again won by the Congress party. Congress candidate Sunil Kumar Jakhar defeated BJP candidate Sarwan by nearly 1 lakh 93 thousand votes.
