New Delhi: Congress leader and Member of Parliament from Wayanad Rahul Gandhi on Friday questioned “Who paid the Jamia shooter?,” as he mentioned to Thursday’s dramatic scenes near Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi when a teenager fired at protesting people over the Citizenship Amendment Act.
On Thursday a 17-year old pulled out a gun and fired at students protesting against the citizenship law near Jamia and injured one student. Only after he fired the shot the police who were present in huge numbers to keep a check on the protest reacted on it.
“Who paid the Jamia shooter?” questioned Rahul Gandhi outside parliament on the opening day of the budget session.
Earlier on Thursday, Gandhi had tweeted a quote from Mahatma Gandhi, “I cannot teach you violence, as I do not believe in it. I can only teach you not to bow your heads before any one, even at the cost of your life.”
Top Congress brass, including Gandhi and his mother, Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi, protested near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Parliament complex on Friday against the Citizenship Amendment Act, the National Register of Citizens and the National Population Register.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has ordered strict action in the shooting incident and said: “the culprit will not be spared”.
Thousands, including students in the number of cities and towns across India have taken to the road since last month to protest the new citizenship law that they say discriminates against the minority Muslim community.
