Will Aditya be the first Thackeray to contest polls?

Mumbai | After the landmark victory in the Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra winning 41 out of the 48 seats, the next aim for the BJP-Shivsena alliance is the upcoming assembly polls in October.

Amid preparation of the assembly polls, there are rumours that Shiv Sena president Uddhavv Thackeray’s son and party’s working president Aditya Thackeray is likely to contest the polls. According to sources, the younger Thackeray will be contesting either from Worli or the Sewri constituency of the Mumbai region. However, there is no official announcement from the party regarding this.

The speculation arose when Thackeray’s cousin and Shiv Sena’s Youth wing Yuva Sena’s general secretary Varun Sardesai posted an image of Instagram with a caption,” The time is here, the chance is here, Goal: Assembly 2019, Maharashtra is waiting’.

If Aditya agrees to contest the 2019 assembly polls, then it will be the first time since the formation of Shiv Sena in 1966 that any person related to the Thackeray family will be contesting the polls.

In the 2014 Maharashtra assembly polls, Shiv Sena contested single handed on all 288 seats but won only 63 seats and later extended their support to the BJP who won 122 seats.
