Election 2019

“I will find out who did not work for the party in the elections”, Priyanka Gandhi warns Congress

Rae Bareli | Uttar Pradesh General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra during her visit to Rae Bareli gave a stern warning to the party members.

Priyanka Gandhi had visited the Congress stronghold along with mother Sonia Gandhi to thank the workers who contributed to her victory in the constituency.

“I did not want to deliver any speech here but since I have been made to speak, let me speak the truth. The truth is that this election was won with the help of Sonia Gandhi and the people of Raebareli,” said a visibly upset Priyanka Gandhi, news agency ANI reported.

“I will find out the names of the workers who did not work for the party in the elections,” she warned, at a rally in Rae Bareli.

Congress suffered a massive defeat in Uttar Pradesh, managing to win only one seat from total 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

The party retained Sonia Gandhi’s constituency Rae Bareli, by more than 1 lakh votes against BJP’s Dinesh Pratap Singh.

The party has since submerged in an internal turmoil, with clashes between workers and top management all over the country.

Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi also suffered a huge blow to now Amethi MP Smriti Irani, who won against Gandhi by more than 50,000 votes. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, the Congress chief had defeated Irani by a margin of over 1 lakh votes.

Priyanka Gandhi was appointed as the general secretary in-charge of east Uttar Pradesh just before the elections. She had campaigned for Congress candidates in UP and some other states.

Priyanka, along with Jyotiraditya Scindia will also hold a review meeting in Lucknow on June 14.

Overall, the Congress secured only 52 votes out of total 543 member Lok Sabha assembly.
