Yeddyurappa terms Congress’ allegation false; plans to file defamation case

New Delhi | Hitting back at the Congress party’s allegation of paying over ₹1800 crores to the central Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa has termed these allegations as false and baseless.

The Congress party today accused BS Yeddyurappa of corruption referring to a report of The Caravan magazine, that claimed to have obtained the diary of the BJP leader which allegedly claims BS Yeddyurappa to be involved in corruption of over ₹1800 crores. The report states that Yeddyurappa paid the party’s central committee, judges and advocates.

Responding to the allegations, Yeddyurappa said, “Congress party and its leaders are bankrupt of ideas, they are frustrated with the growing popularity of the Modi ji, they have lost the battle before it began. I-T Department officials have already proved that the documents are forged and fake.” Accusing Congress of planting the story to gain electoral mileage, the former Karnataka leader said, “They have planted the story in the media to gain mileage in the upcoming elections. Issues raised by Congress leaders are irrelevant and false. I’m discussing with the senior advocates to file a defamation case against the concerned person also.

The published report of The Caravan Magazine stated that Yeddyurappa paid top BJP politicians, including Arun Jaitley, Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh and veteran leaders like LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi. Questioning PM Modi over lack of investigation in the corruption case, Congress Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said,” Is it true or false? The diary with BS Yeddyurappa’s sign on it was with the Income Tax Department since 2017. If that is the case why did Modi ji and BJP did not get it investigated?”
