On Friday, while addressing the press conference at Constitution Club in Delhi, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said that between the 2024 Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections in Maharashtra, 39 lakh new voters were added.
“In five years between Vidhan Sabha election 2019, 32 lakh new voters were added to the electoral rolls in Maharashtra. However, in five months from 2024 Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha 2024, 39 lakh new voters were added. Who are these 39 lakh new voters?” said Rahul Gandhi.
In reply to his press conference, the Election Commission on Friday said on the social media platform X, ” ECI considers political parties as priority stakeholders, of course the voters being the prime & deeply values views, suggestions, questions coming from political parties. Commission would respond in writing with full factual &procedural matrix uniformly adopted across the country.”
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also claimed that the adult population of Maharashtra is 9.54 crore as per government data, while there are 9.7 crore voters in the state.
