‘Golden Girl’ Hima Das wins 5th gold medal in 19 days; Twitter congratulates

New Delhi | Young Indian Sprinter Hima Das has created history winning her 5th gold within a month recording her season-best 52.09 seconds in 400m race.

This was 19-year-old Hima’s fifth gold since July 2 when she ran her first competitive race in Europe. She has been keeping on improving since her first race.

In her first competitive 200m race of the year, the old Assam runner had clocked 23.65 seconds on her way to gold at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland on July 2. After that, she won her second 200m gold at the Kutno Athletics Meet, also in Poland, on July 7 with a time of 23.97 seconds.

On July 13, she won her third 200m gold at the Kladno Athletics Meet in Czech Republic with a time of 23.43. Das’ 4th gold came on 17th July when she won the 200m race in the Tabor Athletics Meet.

Applauding for her victorious run, Twitter users congratulated Das. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Twitter wrote that the entire country is proud of Das’ phenomenal achievements over the last few days. “India is very proud of Hima Das’ phenomenal achievements over the last few days. Everyone is absolutely delighted that she has brought home five medals in various tournaments. Congratulations to her and best wishes for her future endeavours,” wrote Modi.

President Ram Nath Kovind also congratulated Das for her 5 victories in last 3 weeks. President Kovind wrote,” Three weeks, five gold medals! You’re incredible @HimaDas8 Keep sprinting, keep shining — and may this success set the pace for glory at the 2020 Olympic Games.”

Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijuju also congratulated Das on her performance at the Nove Mesto Athletics Meet. Rijuju also applauded other athletes who won laurels at the event. Rijuju wrote,” I’m so excited about India’s performance in Athletics. Our Golden girl @HimaDas8 ran phenomenally at #NoveMestoAthleticsMeet. #MPJabir also won gold in men’s 400m and @muhammedanasyah won bronze in men’s 200m. @HimaDas8 will run her next race on 28th July again. My best wishes.”

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi wrote,”1,2,3,4,5…fantastic!! @HimaDas8 you’ve won five medals and a million hearts!”
