Overlooked for World Cup twice, Ambati Rayudu announces retirement from cricket

New Delhi | Indian Cricket Team’s batsman Ambati Rayudu today announced his retirement from all form of cricket after been overlooked for the World Cup twice.

Rayudu, a middle-order batsman played 55 ODIs and 6 T20s for the Indian Senior team scoring 1,694 in ODIs with 3 centuries and 10 half centuries. He also picked up 3 wickets in his ODI career.

The Hyderabad batsman has not stated the reason behind his retirement and said that he won’t be playing in the upcoming season of IPL. Rayudu said that he is open for playing T20 tournaments abroad.

Expressing his displeasure over selecting Allrounder Vijay Shankar in his place Rayudu on his Twitter account wrote, “Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup.”

Rayudu’s hope for getting into the world cup squad was broken twice as the BCCI picked Rishab Pant and Mayank Agarwal after Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar suffered an injury during the ongoing world cup.

Amabati Rayudu who made his debut against Zimbabwe in 2013 played his last ODI against Australia in 2019 in the series before the world cup.
