Tamil Nadu: Pregnant Woman Sexually Assaulted, 1 Arrested

A horrific incident occurred in Tamil Nadu as a four-month pregnant woman was sexually assaulted on the train and pushed off. The police have detained one person in connection with the incident.

Near Jolarpettai in Tirupattur district, the incident took place when the woman was travelling to Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh and was sexually assaulted by two men on Friday.

The woman was going to the washroom when she was assaulted, and the two men allegedly pushed her out of the train near KV Kuppam in Vellore district. She suffered hand and leg injuries and was taken to the District Government Hospital in Vellore for treatment. The police have detained a man named Hemraj, and the case has been registered.

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswamy said, “The news that a pregnant woman was sexually assaulted by two men and then pushed off a train when she tried to scream is shocking. It is the height of shame that women in Tamil Nadu cannot walk safely on the road; cannot go to school, colleges, or workplaces; and now cannot even travel by train.”
