“When the Narendra Modi government came to power at the Centre in 2014, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was sharing power with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab. Chandigarh Union Territory’s staffers were governed by the Punjab civil services rules. The arrangement continued till Sunday. Monday onwards, the employees in the Chandigarh administration are treated as the central government staffers.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah made the announcement in Chandigarh on his first Punjab visit since the assembly election. It came a week after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
