Editorial with Sujit Nair: Is Taliban a Legitimate Government???

Two days after taking over Kabul and thereby capturing Afghanistan, the Taliban addressed their first Press Conference. The country is witnessing chaos, fear and uncertainty in the last two days since the extremist group took over the country’s rule in hands. In Kabul thousands of people thronged to the Airport to board planes leaving the country to escape the Taliban rule. For them, Taliban rule reminded of the era 20 years ago witnessed by the previous generation that took the country centuries back. It meant public execution, stoning and hardline sharia law implementation. Amid the mayhem in the capital, people trying to escape the country, the Taliban now in-charge of the country addressed a press conference, apparently, to clarify their stance on certain key issues.
