In this episode of ‘Editorial,’ Mr. Sujit Nair discusses the arrest warrant issued against former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa under a POCSO case, and remarks made by the Karnataka High Court while staying the arrest. The Court stated, “”He is not some Tom, Dick, or Harry. He is a former Chief Minister of the State. Is it your case he will flee the country? What can he do by leaving for Delhi from Bangalore?”” The single judge ultimately ruled that no coercive action should be taken against the former CM, particularly as Yediyurappa had committed in writing to appear before the investigating officer on June 17. The Court further noted, “”We cannot immediately conclude that there is a case for arrest and detention for custodial interrogation of the petitioner, who has been a former Chief Minister, is of advanced age, and has age-related ailments. Proceedings for arrest and detention of the petitioner are put on hold until the next hearing date.””
