In this episode on editorial, Mr. Sujit Nair discusses about the current meet going on in two spheres of Indian political discourse; the United NDA Vs the United Opposition. Leaders of 26 opposition parties are expected to participate in a two-day brainstorming session in Bengaluru starting from Monday. The primary goal is to devise a collective strategy to combat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Eight parties that were not part of the previous opposition meeting in Patna will join the discussions in Bengaluru. These parties include MDMK, KDMK, VCK, RSP, All India Forward Bloc, IUML, Kerala Congress (Joseph), and Kerala Congress (Mani). This marks the second meeting of the opposition parties within a month as they endeavor to resolve their differences and form a united front against the Narendra Modi government. The initial attempt at opposition unity took place in Patna on June 23, where six chief ministers of opposition parties pledged unity against the BJP in the presence of several prominent leaders. Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi is likely to participate in the upcoming meeting, along with other notable figures like Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Rahul Gandhi, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bihar Chief Minister and JDU leader Nitish Kumar, DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, JMM leader and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, and AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal, among others. In response to the opposition’s coordination, the BJP-led NDA has also scheduled a meeting on July 18, inviting various political leaders, including potential new allies. BJP president JP Nadda has been reaching out to leaders from different parties, including those from the ruling party, in preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
