Headlines: Delhi Police Detain BJP Leader Ashwini Upadhyay In Jantar Mantar Communal Slogan Case

BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay and five others have been taken into police custody and are being questioned in connection with the communal sloganeering near Jantar Mantar on Sunday, Delhi Police sources said on Tuesday. The Delhi Police had summoned the BJP’s Ashwini Upadhyay on Monday and asked him to appear at the Connaught Place police station for questioning. Others being questioned are Vinod Sharma, Deepak Singh, Deepak, Vinit Kranti, Preet Singh, the police said. All six are likely to be arrested soon, the sources added. Officials familiar with the case said that Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana has directed officers to take strict action against whoever is held responsible in this case. BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay had earlier written to the Delhi Police Commissioner in connection with the case on Monday. In his letter, Ashwani Upadhyay said a programme was organised near Jantar Mantar by the Save India Foundation on Monday.
