RBI vs. Government: The government blinks

The much awaited meeting of the Reserve Bank board of directors, finally took place yesterday, minus the fireworks in the preceding weeks and the doomsday scenario that some had predicted. There were no resignations or conflicts traded to rile the markets. If the reports are true, the meeting was held in a cordial and business like atmosphere, with no homilies or taunting tweets and both sides moving away from their extreme positions. What is it that led to such cordial state of affairs between the two sides? Mr. Akhilesh Bhargava, Business Editor of HW Business and Finance shares his insights and takes on the matter in this exclusive video.

New Delhi| Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was attacked with chilli powder at the Delhi Secretariat on Tuesday. An unknown person threw chilli powder at Kejriwal outside the Chief Minister’s chamber in the Delhi Secretariat. The condition of CM Kejriwal after the attack is yet to be ascertained. The accused is suspected to be a resident of Narayana area.

The attacker came to Arvind Kejriwal when he was entering his chamber along with three of his colleagues. He handed over a paper to Kejriwal. He then bent over to show that he is picking something that he dropped. However, when Kejriwal turned and proceeded towards his chambers, the attacker got up and threw chilli powder at him.

The colleagues of Kejriwal quickly held the attacker after initial manhandling.

Arvind Kejriwal has also been attacked before this. In October of 2016, the ink was thrown at him in Bikaner in Rajasthan. He had gone there to join the mourning meeting of a local leader of Aam Aadmi Party. In another incident, a woman had thrown ink at Kejriwal in Delhi’s Chhatrasal stadium in January.
