BJP breaks alliance with Mehbooba Mufti in Jammu and Kashmir. In a sensational development, the BJP today has decided to pull out of its ruling alliance with the PDP in Jammu and Kashmir. The decision has been taken by BJP party president Amit Shah. The break-up of the alliance that came into power after the J&K Assembly election of 2014, which saw the PDP emerging as the biggest party with 28 seats and the BJP emerging as the second-biggest with 25 seats, comes at a time when faultlines had been apparent for at least a few months. Just before news of the alliance breaking was announced, the J&K Deputy CM had hit out at CM Mehbooba Mufti over her alleged wish for the Ramzan ceasefire to be extended. Sources said that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was not happy with Centre’s decision to resume anti-terror operations in the Valley. This is surely a major political turn of events ahead of the 2019 general elections.
