Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury criticizes Mamata Banerjee for attending the G20 dinner

President Droupadi Murmu’s G20 dinner has stirred political discussions throughout the country. While several prominent political figures from across the nation attended the event, others chose not to participate. Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhury on Sunday questioned West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee’s decision to attend the dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu on the occasion of the G20 meet in Delhi The presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at President Droupadi Murmu’s G20 dinner has created a fresh division within the Indian opposition. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a senior Congress leader, raised concerns about Banerjee’s attendance, questioning whether it might undermine her position against the Narendra Modi government. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury who is the state president of Congress in Bengal told reporters in Kolkata and I am quoting, “”When many non-BJP CMs refrained from attending the dinner, Didi (Mamata Banerjee) went to Delhi a day in advance. She attended the occasion with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the same room. I wonder what prompted her to rush to Delhi to be at the dinner party along with these leaders, Continuing He also said, “”Nothing would have happened if she didn’t attend the dinner. The sky would not fall. Mahabharata would not have become impure. The Kuran would not have been impure. After Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury statement, a series of allegations started from political leaders of different parties. On Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s statement, TMC said that Banerjee is one of the chief architects behind the Opposition bloc INDIA and did not need a lecture from the Congress leader about protocols to be followed. TMC Rajya Sabha MP Santanu Sen said and I am quoting, “”Chowdhury will not decide when the chief minister of the state will go to attend a dinner on the occasion of G20 as part of the protocol. On Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s statement, BJP’s West Bengal spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya also hit out at Congress over the issue accusing the party of joining hands with the Banerjee-led party in Delhi, betraying the people of the state who were “victims of the TMC’s terror”. Samik Bhattacharya said and I am quoting, “”So, people like Adhir Chowdhury should explain who is cosying up to TMC and doing a disservice to the people of the state. Reacting to Adhir’s comments, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla posted on X saying and I am quoting, “Congress & I-N-D-I alliance. Priyanka Vadra slams G20, and Shashi Tharoor hails it. Adhir Ranjan slams Mamata for attending the G20 dinner, Congress CM Sukhvinder Sukhu himself was there! This is what happens when you have no Vision or Mission. Just contradictions & mindless opposition.”” But not only Mamata Banerjee was the only leader of the India block present at the venue. along with Mamta Banerjee, Bihar’s Nitish Kumar and Jharkhand’s Hemant Soren were among the chief ministers from the Opposition seen at the dinner hosted for the delegates. Meanwhile, cm of few states who are members of the Indian alliance did not attend the event. Leaders like Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, Rajasthan’s Ashok Gehlot, Odisha’s Naveen Patnaik and Delhi’s Arvind Kejriwal were among the leaders from opposition parties who gave the event a miss Moreover, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was not invited to the dinner. As Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was not invited to the dinner, Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah expressed his view and said that Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge not being invited to the G20 dinner was “wrong””. Now the point is, that the Chief Ministers who attended the G20 dinner were entirely justified in doing so. This event is not affiliated with any particular political party, be it the BJP, Congress, TMC, DMK, JMM, or others. The G20 event represents India on the global stage, and thus, Chief Ministers need to participate. However, the omission of Mallikarjun Kharge, opposition congress party supreme, from the guest list raises valid questions. Why wasn’t the leader of the opposition Congress party invited to India’s G20 event?
