The Delhi police did not object to the granting of bail to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the outgoing chief of the Wrestling Federation Of India (WFI), who has been accused of sexual harassment by several women wrestlers. During a bail hearing at the Rouse Avenue court in Delhi, the court initially reserved its decision but later granted regular bail to Mr. Singh and Vinod Tomar, the Federation’s suspended assistant secretary. During the morning hearing, the lawyer representing the wrestlers opposed Mr. Singh’s petition for regular bail, citing his influence and potential to tamper with witnesses. The lawyer requested that if bail is granted, strict conditions should be imposed, including no contact with the complainants or witnesses. Mr. Singh’s lawyer, Rajiv Mohan, assured the court that his client poses no threat and will not attempt to interfere with the case. The Delhi Police, when asked for their position, stated that they neither oppose nor support the bail petition, leaving the decision to the court. Earlier, the same court had granted Mr. Singh interim bail for two days, and Vinod Tomar had also been granted bail. The women wrestlers had raised concerns about the impartiality of the government-formed oversight panel that investigated the sexual harassment allegations, claiming it favored Mr. Singh, who is a BJP MP. The six-member panel, led by renowned Indian boxer MC Mary Kom, submitted its report to the government, but it has not been made public. Despite facing charges of sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, and stalking, Mr. Singh has refused to step down from his position as WFI chief.
