Case Filed Against Accused Already In Jail In Other Case, Question Over Madhya Pradesh Police Action

“During Ram Navami celebrations on SUnday, violence broke out in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargaon. According to reports, stones were pelt during the Ram Navami procession and shops were set on fire and properties were damaged. The clashes also left many injured. The SP was shot in the leg during the violence. According to police total of 24 people were injured including six policemen. Following the violence in khargaon, the authorities ran the bulldozer over about 45 houses and shops. Around 16 houses and 29 shops were demolished on Monday. According to reports, most of these shops and houses belong to Muslims.

The administration has said that it has carried out the demolition drive on the orders of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan who instructed to take action against illegal houses involved in the violence and stone-pelting.

While the Madhya Pradesh govt and police has come under fire for the arbitrary action of bulldozing the houses of the accused, without the court convicting them in the crime, the list of accused has also put a big question mark on how the police has been conducting the investigation.

According to an NDTV report, Three men, accused of attempted murder have been named in a police case in the communal clashes in Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani district. The only issue, these three named as accused in the case were already in jail at the time the violence-hit Khargaon and Barwani. How can they then be in the jail and also be causing violence outside during the clashes? The revelation has raised questions about the police investigations in the rioting case.
