Crow ‘attacks’ Raghav Chadha; BJP invokes ‘Jhooth Bole Kauwa Kate.’

On Tuesday 26 july, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP, Raghav Chadha, had an unexpected encounter with a crow outside the parliament building while he was engrossed in a phone conversation, carrying files in hand. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took this opportunity to make a witty remark, invoking an age-old Hindi saying – “”Jhoot Bole Kauvva Kate”” (The crow bites the liar). The layered dig at the the popular AAP MP coincided with the Cabinet’s approval of the Delhi Ordinance Bill, despite ongoing protests from opposition leaders. The bill is expected to be presented in the current Monsoon session of Parliament to replace the ordinance. Images of the crow incident were captured by the news agency PTI, forming a collage that depicted the crow flying dangerously close to MP Chadha’s head, prompting him to duck and avoid any harm. The BJP’s Delhi unit shared these images on Twitter, along with the caption, “”Liar bites the crow. Till today I had only heard, today I also saw that the crow bitten the liar!”” The post quickly gained traction, amassing over 4,000 likes and nearly 1,400 retweets, drawing attention from concerned netizens. Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national president, Tejinder Pall Singh Bagga, also expressed his concern for MP Chadha’s well-being on Twitter, wishing him good health after hearing about the crow attack. Earlier, MP Raghav Chadha had written a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, urging him not to allow a bill aimed at replacing the Centre’s ordinance on administrative services control in Delhi to be introduced in the Upper House. He labeled the bill as “”unconstitutional”” and called upon the Rajya Sabha chairman to direct the BJP-led Centre to withdraw it in order to preserve the Constitution. The attack on the AAP MP occurred amidst the Opposition passing a no-confidence motion against the ruling BJP-led NDA government in the Lok Sabha. Regarding the no-confidence motion, Chadha commented on the historical significance of such parliamentary instruments, emphasizing their role in strengthening India’s democracy. He believed that deploying these instruments would compel the Prime Minister of India to address important issues raised by people and Lok Sabha members in a long-duration discussion within the Parliament.
