Ex-BJP Spokesperson Aarti Sathe Named Bombay HC Judge: Opposition Says ‘Mockery Of Democracy’

On 28th July, the Supreme Court Collegium approved the names of three senior lawyers to be elevated as judges of the Bombay High Court. One of them is Aarti Sathe – a senior lawyer who has mainly dealt in tax-related cases for over 20 years. Her proposed elevation has stirred a political controversy. That’s because Aarti Sathe was part of the Bhartiya Janata Party, Maharashtra till January 2024. The opposition says her appointment is an attack on the Indian democracy. The BJP said she had quit the party 1.5 years ago. When HW News English contacted Sathe, she declined to comment on the matter.
