Looking Back: Controversial Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari Is Removed, Even BJP Is Relieved?

On Sunday, President Draupadi Murmu announced appointments of Governors and Lieutenant Governors of 12 states including Assam, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Himachal. The President has also appointed lieutenant Governor for the Union territory of Ladakh. We have already spoken about Former Supreme Court Judge S Abdul Nazeer who has been appointed governor of AP and the controversy brewing over this. But there is another name in the list which keeps hitting headlines often, although for wrong reasons. The name is of Bhagatsingh Koshyari-governor of Maharashtra. Probably one of the most controversial governor in the state’s history, Koshyari had several run-ins with the MVA govt in the state. However, not only opposition parties, but at times even the leaders of the ruling BJP expressed their displeasure over Koshyari and his statements. Apart from the political parties, his recent statements regarding the state’s idols, drew flak even from the common people. There was a widespread demand for his resignation. So it wouldn’t be wrong to say that he was probably the only governor who not only the state’s political class but even the common people wanted gone.
