“It is only a week till Himachal Pradesh votes in Assembly election. The hill state will go for poll on November 12. The results will be announced almost a month later on December 8. There are total 68 seats in Himachal Pradesh assembly. The magic figure to form govt in the state is 35. Currently, BJP has 45 seats and Congress has 22 and CPIM has 1 seat. The interesting part about the hill state is that in the last 30 years it has never repeated the govt. Since the formation of the state in 1962, the Congress won consecutive elections until 1977. In 1977, Janata party came to power in the state riding on anger against Indira Gandhi. However, Congress soon won subsequent two assembly elections. From 1990 onwards though, the state hasn’t yet seen a govt repeat the rule in the state. And that factor makes Congress hopeful this time around. It has made BJP anxious though it hopes to break the trend. BJP President JP Nadda himself has taken the lead in campaigning to ensure this. However, the road to regain power in the Hill state is not so smooth for BJP. The BJP here faces many issues. The discontent among apple growing farmers over fair pricing, issue of the New Pension scheme, issues of Unemployment and inflation and on top of that, the party is facing internal revolt. Will this split in the party dent BJP’s dreams of breaking the jinx in Himachal Pradesh? Arti Ghargi discusses in today’s video.
