“Member of Parliament from Bhopal, Sadhvi Pragya Singh in a bizarre claim said that she was not affected by Covid-19 as she regularly consumes Gaumuta (cow urine). Sadhvi was speaking at a function held in Bairagarh, Bhopal, on Sunday. “”If we take gaumutra, it cures lung infection. I take it regularly. This is the reason that I am safe, corona could not infect me. We all should keep a cow at home,”” she said. This is not first time when Sadhvi has claimed that cow urine cures serious disease. In April 2019, Sadhvi had claimed that gaumutra and panchyagavy helped to cure her cancer. “”I take gaumutra and panchyagavya (mixture of cow products) on regular basis. It cured my cancer,”” she had said, appealing to all citizens to take cow urine. There’s no scientific evidence that cow urine cures or helps in both Covid-19 cases or in Cancer cases. However, instances of people turning to such alternate quacks in light of rising covid cases are being witnessed across India. Recently a video by news agency reuters went viral. It showed some people in Gujarat who have been “going to cow shelters once a week to cover their bodies in cow dung and urine in the hope it will boost their immunity against, or help them recover from, the coronavirus”. However Doctors have raised the alarm over reports of people rubbing cow dung or urine on their bodies — branded “cow dung therapy”. The so-called therapy could possibly add to cases of “black fungus” or mucormycosis, which has been reported among some recovered patients who were administered steroids during Covid treatment, doctors say. Doctors say any Covid-19 patient who is diabetic or immunocompromised and has taken steroids should be warned against using cow dung.
