Restrictions imposed in Valley to foil separatist Shopian march

Srinagar, March 7: Restrictions are imposed in parts of Srinagar today to prevent separatist protest march to Shopian.

The Joint Hurriyat Leadership (JHL), headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for Shopian march to express solidarity with the families of two militants and four others (OGWs) killed in Shopian during an encounter.

Police said that restrictions under Section 144 of the CrPC have been imposed in the old city area and some uptown areas here to maintain law and order.

Beside this separatist leader Yasin Malik has been lodged in the Srinagar Central Jail, while Geelani and Umer Farooq have been placed under house arrest.

Meanwhile, as per the administration order all the schools, colleges and universities are already closed in the valley due to prevailing tension.

The train services have also been suspended while markets are also observing shut down in most of the areas in Kashmir.

Heavy deployments of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been also made to deal with any emergency or untoward situation.
