Revanth Reddy: From ABVP To Telangana’s new CM

On Sunday, Congress won 64 out of the 119 seats in the assembly elections in Telangana, dethroning the BRS and preventing KCR from making history by becoming the first CM in South India to have a third consecutive tenure. The poster boy for the Congress party in India’s youngest state throughout the campaign was Revanth Reddy. The next CM of the state is likely to take the oath on Thursday at 11 AM. Now, who is Revanth Reddy? Once part of BJP’s student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, he is now the next CM of the state. Let’s discuss, but before that, if you are watching this on Facebook, please like our page, and if you are watching this on Youtube, subscribe to HW News English. Anumula Revanth Reddy was born in November 1969. As a student, he was part of the BJP’s student wing ABVP. Around 2001-2002, he joined TRS under the leadership of KCR. However, after being sidelined by the party, he quit TRS in 2006. In 2006, he contested the local body elections and was elected as a Zilla Praja Parishad Territorial Constituency member. In just one year, Revanth Reddy was elected as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) as an independent candidate. Around the same time, he met Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and joined the Telugu Desam Party. Two years later, Reddy was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from the Kodangal constituency, defeating five-time MLA and Congress strongman Gurunath Reddy. He retained the seat in the next election. The same year, Reddy was elected as the floor leader of the Telugu Desam Party in the Telangana Legislative Assembly. In 2017, the TDP sacked him as the floor leader of Telangana after reports surfaced that Reddy would consider joining the Congress party, and as speculated, within days after the move, he joined the Congress around one year before the state elections. In 2018, Reddy contested from the same Kodangal constituency as a Congress candidate. But this time the results were opposite. Reddy lost to TRS candidate Patnam Narender Reddy, marking his first electoral defeat. The same year, Reddy was given the responsibility of Congress working president in Telangana. In 2019, Reddy fought the Lok Sabha elections and successfully won from the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency as a Congress candidate, with a margin of 10,919 votes. He defeated his closest competitor, Marri Rajashekar Reddy from TRS. In 2021, the party promoted him and appointed Reddy as the president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee. In 2023, he contested from Kodangal and Kamareddy constituencies, where he was in a direct fight with former CM KCR. However, both the leaders lost to BJP’s Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy. However, Revanth won from the Kodangal constituency. One thing that is now certain is that the Congress party has not only gained a capable CM but also another star campaigner for the Lok Sabha elections in a state with 17 Lok Sabha seats and a leader who also has tremendous influence in the neighboring Andhra Pradesh as well.
